Come to Olympia!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

The children have created some wonderful persuasive leaflets about Olympia in English. Using persuasive language, key facts, complex sentences and rhetorical questions the children needed to persuade visitors to visit Ancient Olympia. They are all displayed for everyone to see in our classroom.

Leeds City Museum

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

What a wonderful day we had today on our school trip! We enjoyed a Greek history workshop at the Leeds City Museum where we found out about different historic artefacts dating back to the Greek period. This was followed by lunch in the sun on Millennium Square and then a tour of the Leeds Art Gallery.  Here, the children were excited to see sculptures by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth as well all some interesting art pieces. The children were all amazingly well behaved and they were a credit to our school.

Busy Bees!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

We have had a very busy week in year 3! Our first 5 day week in a while! In Maths, we have started to build on our knowledge of time and looking at 5 minute intervals on an analogue clock. This was a little challenging for us all so any extra practice on this at home would be very much appreciated. In English, we have been preparing for our persuasive leaflet on Olympia, PE was great fun with Amy this week building on the children’s athletic skills. Finally in Science, we have were looking at magnetic strength and carrying out an investigation using paper clips. This was a fantastic problem solving lesson  with children highlighting when the test hadn’t been fair and how we could improve on this.  Next week we have our trip to the Leeds Museum and the Art Gallery which we are all looking forward to!

Sculptors in action!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

On Thursday, year 3 completed their clay sculptures in the style of Barbara Hepworth during our art lesson. There was an incredible buzz in the classroom as the children really put their all into their work. They supported one another, offered suggestions as well as creating, evaluating and redrafting. Next week we will be evaluating them and sharing our work as a class. Have a look for yourself!
