Healthy Living

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

This week, we have been baking seasonal fruit tarts! The children started off learning about seasonal produce, food miles and practising cutting skills, including the claw grip and bridge hold. Then they had to taste test various savoury and sweet items (some found new things they liked!) before designing their tart, ready to bake and eat! The children have also been practising yoga and of course competing in Sports Day so a super healthy, fun week!

Wet, Wet, Wet

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

This week has been so busy we haven't even taken any photos! We've been busily finishing sewing cushions, practising for sports day, crafting at wet playtimes and beginning to create basic computer games by programming sprites to move around a maze!

In maths, we have been working on time, including learning how many days are in each month and how to calculate the hours in a month. Some children have found this difficult so any extra telling the time they could do at home would really support them in class!

We have also finished our story time book of Greek myths which they have loved and are well-prepared to write their own myth next week - we've got fire-breathing gorgons, sword-wielding gods and quarrelling queens so I'm sure they'll make exciting reading when they're finished!

Hinduism

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

Year 3 had an excellent talk from our Hindu visitor, Sireesha Betha, today, all about life in Britain for Hindus. Sireesha shared information about her family, her responsibilities and her beliefs and practices, all of which the children listen to really carefully. They had some super questions too and as you can see from their books, they learnt lots!

Money, money, money!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

The children have started their latest maths topic on money this week and are doing well! They enjoyed competing to find as many ways to make £1 as they could and how to make various amounts the most efficient way today. Time to let them loose with their pocket money - can they calculate change from the shop keeper before they get it or add up all the shopping in the supermarket as they’re going around?!

Collective Worship and Forest Schools

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

The children put in a brilliant effort with their collective worship about faithfulness on Wednesday. They spoke clearly and remembered lots of lines and have all learnt what it means to be faithful. It was great to see so many parents there to support and we hope you all enjoyed the stories of Greyfriar's Bobby and Noah's Ark!

All of the children have now had an opportunity to enjoy Forest Schools with Miss Griffin as well and come back full of excitement each week. They love the exploration and the chance to do something unusual, outdoors...and the smores might have had something to do with the enjoyment too!
