Welcome to Spring Term in Year 3!
Miss Jackson will be teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Miss Christie will be teaching on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; Mrs McDonald and Mrs Pullan will be our teaching assistants.

Light Science

This week, the children have concluded their computing topic on desktop publishing - watch this space for the results! We have also done some brilliant sentence stacking as well as starting our new class read, Pugs of the Frozen North - it's already proving a hit! Then this afternoon, we were learning about the words 'opaque', 'translucent' and 'transparent' in science, and what better way to check our understanding than by testing what happens with some torch-light on our classroom objects...and friends! Super practical science!
Responsible Citizens

We have been busy bees this week, doing amazingly in multiplication and division in maths, starting our new writing unit with some fab drama based on the story, A Star in a Jar, and putting the finishing touches to our sun safety leaflets in science. We have also been thinking about how to be responsible citizens in PSHE. The children had such mature ideas to share about what sort of people they want to be. Take a look at some of them below!
A Week of Endurance!

We've had such a great week this week! The children have done some super listening and have shown enthusiasm and great memories for what we've learnt in our topic! We have quite a group of scientists, geographers, historians and writers! Below are some pictures from our history lesson about Ernest Shackleton and his Endurance expedition.
We also had some amazing thoughts and answers when learning about bullying in the poem, Samantha-Jayne, by Gervase Phinn, and in our Diversity workshop this morning - the children were so mature when discussing the harm of stereotypes and have all pledged to try not to use stereotypes and to challenge harmful stereotypes they hear going forward. Not to mention raising funds for Children in Need with their comfy clothes on today - well done, Year 3! (Not least because our classroom was so hot this afternoon and those oodies and pyjamas were so warm!) Have a great weekend!
First Week Back!

Year 3 have had a great first week back, getting straight into their learning with a few new topics already underway - we are writing a polar bear non-chronological report, investigating light in science and learning about celebrations in RE. Yesterday afternoon, we started our new French topic, Les Animaux, and enjoyed some very funny animal interpretations whilst learning some key vocabulary! See if you can work out from the picture what we were learning!
End of Term Art

The children have had lots of variety this week and have been brimming with their usual energy, despite it being the end of a long half term - well done, Year 3! They finished off today with some art work in celebration of all our great learning from Black History Month - hopefully there have been some great conversations at home about Bessie Coleman, Matthew Henson and Simone Biles, who was the focus of some art work this afternoon. We used oil pastels to create a silhouette of Biles and added some inspirational quotes around the edges.
