Safeguarding

At Adel St John the Baptist C of E Primary School (ASJ) we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff, volunteers and contractors to share this commitment.  We are fully dedicated to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school.  We thrive on providing a happy secure environment in which children develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically, thus making a positive contribution to their community.

We follow the procedures set out by the Leeds City Council, Leeds Children’s Services Safeguarding and Child Protection as detailed in Adel St John the Baptist C of E Primary School Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Safeguarding at ASJ can be summarised as:

    • Protecting children and learners from maltreatment
    • Preventing impairment of children and learners health or development
    • Ensuring that children and learners are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
    • Undertaking the role so as to enable those children and learners to have optimum life chances and to enter adulthood successfully

Safeguarding is an essential part of the fabric to our school and our Safeguarding team pays particular attention to the meticulous and systemic implementation of policies and routines.  Safeguarding involves every member of the school community in some way and we have a strong understanding of the particular circumstances and needs of all pupils, especially the most vulnerable.

Parents/carers should be aware that our school will take any reasonable action to safeguard the welfare of our pupils.  In cases where we believe that a child may be suffering from significant harm, ill treatment or neglect or other forms of harm, our staff have no alternative but to follow the procedures as described in the Child protection policy.   Designated staff will contact Children’s Services Duty and Advice team to discuss concerns.  Our aim is to always to be honest with parents/carers and liaise with them first prior to approaching other agencies. However, if staff feel that by contacting the parents/carers there is an increased risk of harm to a child then the school may contact another agency before speaking to parents/carers.

Should you have any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children at Adel St John the Baptist C of E Primary School, please contact a member of the Safeguarding team via the school office on 0113 261 1804

If you have any concerns regarding the welfare or safety of a child please call Children’s Social Work Services directly on 0113 2224403 or if you feel that the child is at immediate risk call 999.
