Greek Day!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
We kick started our new topic on the 'Ancient Greeks' with a 'Greek Day' on Tuesday. The children took part in a variety of activities including tasting different Greek delicacies, following a recipe to make their own Greek salad, exploring where Greece is on a map, learning about different Greek myths and creating their own mythical creatures as well as carrying out some research using the iPads. Thank you for all your efforts with the children's costumes- we all had a wonderful. cultural day!
STEM DAY
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
Today the children took part in a whole school STEM day where they were asked to create a strong bridge. The design criteria was-
- It needed to be made out of art straws, masking tape and paper.
2. It must be freestanding.
3. it must span a gap of 20cm
The children worked in their friendship pairs to create their bridges and it was lovely to see the engagement, problem solving and teamwork displayed by each pair. It was also particularly wonderful to have a day off timetable where the children were free to be creative. A great day by all!
What is friction?
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
This week in science, we have been learning about friction as part of our topic on forces and magnets. We carried out an investigation, focusing on fair testing, as well as finding out which material creates the most friction. When releasing a car down a ramp, we carried out two tests for each material and tried a different height of the ramp to see if this made a difference. Many of the children predicted correctly that bubble wrap and foam would create the most friction.
Practical maths
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
This week in maths we have been learning about mass- comparing, ordering and equivalent weights. We used Base 10 to find different ways of making 1kg which we find really helpful to support our learning.
World Book Day
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
Yesterday we celebrated world book day. We had a fantastic day where we enjoyed a secret mission of creating a book cover for our classroom door, discussing our favourite stories and books, as well as creating a chapter for our ASJ story. Thank you for all your efforts with the children’s costumes, they all looked amazing!
