A cold week!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

We have had a busy week in the cold weather. In science, we have been looking at the season of autumn and now we have started making observations about the start of winter! At forest school we roasted marshmallows on our whittled sticks around a cosy fire! We also enjoyed sharing another reading morning.

Another busy week

Year 1 have enjoyed another busy week. We marked remembrance day on Monday as a school. On Wednesday some of the children enjoyed their first forest school session, planting new trees on our school grounds. We have been ‘choosing respect’ for anti bullying week and had a lovely workshop this morning celebrating diversity. Look out on Seesaw for our fireworks poem performed with sound effects!

Welcome Back

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term break. Year have enjoyed being back with their friends. We have been using our part whole models to help with our addition and subtraction. We have also been using onomatopoeia and similes to write a firework poem.

Please check your child has pumps in school, and items for forest school next week if needed.

Forest school

Look out for a letter about Forest school for Year 1 after half term. If your child already has wellies or waterproofs in school these can be used for Forest school.

The last week

This week we have enjoyed keeping a weather diary and exploring spirals in art. We have had a go at drawing different sized spirals with different media and looked closely at patterns in shells. We tried a continuous line drawing of a shell and it was tricky not ot take the pencil off the paper!
