TTRS

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog

The children have had a fab day dressed as rockstars! Thank you all for such an amazing effort with their outfits (photos on the newsletter). They were very excited to get the chance to try TTRS in class, and this will continue weekly going forwards. The children should all have brought home their logins to practice this weekend - can't wait to see their progress in the coming months! The best game for them to practice at the moment is probably Jamming, when they can select to just have multiplication questions (no division yet) and they can choose just their 10s or 2s until they get more confident. Once they get confident enough, the programme will automatically make them choose something more challenging. For the meantime, it's just about being exposed to mulitplication and having fun so there is no pressure but some practice at home at least once per week is what we would hope for. Enjoy!

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The children had a great day at the Sculpture Park on Tuesday, with beautiful weather too! They enjoyed seeing lots of the sculptures and even more, had the chance to learn skills from a real artist. Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping make it such a great day!

Year 2 Spelling Homework

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog

Tonight we are sending home our weekly spelling homework. This is a list of words taken from our previous learning in phonics and the National Curriculum Year 1 and Year 2 spelling list.

The children can practise spelling the words by saying and writing the word on one side of the sheet and exploring the word further on the opposite side.

Please feel free to practise the spellings in other ways if that better suits your child eg use magnetic letters, using technology or painting.

You do not need to return the sheet to school as we will use the words in a dictation the following week to check the children's learning.

Getting into Routine

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog

This week has been the children's first full week with all their lessons! It's been a busy one but there has been lots of fun and learning. They have started their DT topic on fairground rides, got engrossed in James and the Giant Peach and had lots of practical maths, creating and partitioning numbers to 100.

Welcome to Year 2!

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog

It’s been a great first week in Year 2! The children have all seemed excited to be back and have got stuck in with all their new learning!

We have been looking at a book called The Planet in a Pickle Jar, which is all about preserving our favourite things so they never disappear and our week’s learning culminated in us making our own pickle jars to save the world this afternoon! It was lovely to see so many creative ideas - trees, weather, animals, food - see for yourselves below!

We have also been working practically in maths, making numbers to 100 with various apparatus, counting in groups of 10 to help us count more quickly and easily.

Well done, Year 2! Have a lovely weekend ready for more next week!

The Planet in a Pickle Jar

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog

The Year 2 children had a lovely time making their pickle jars this morning. They put items with special memories or things from nature that they wanted to preserve inside them. We even made a class one to remember the Queen.
