Homework In Year 4
Reading: Your child's reading book should travel to and from school with them every day, alongside their green reading record. Reading helps children’s learning in a huge number of ways, including improving their vocabulary, developing the quality of their writing and building their comprehension skills. We expect children to read at home at least three times per week. We ask that a parent or carer sign this off in the reading record to be checked in school each Monday.
Spellings: A new spelling list will be sent home each Friday and should be practised regularly, in short bursts throughout the week, ready for a test on the following Friday. The children will also have some opportunities in class to practise. In the Friday test, five of the ten words will be tested, as individual words, and the new spellings for next week will be taught in a spelling lesson.
Mathletics: This is to be completed every week – there will be new Mathletics tasks set each Thursday with trickier tasks (those scoring less than 50%) being re-set. Please check if your child needs support with any re-set tasks.
Times Tables Rock Stars: Using TTRS to practise times tables regularly at home is a very good idea. Just a three minute burst every day should see recall speeds continue to improve.
PE
This half term the children will have PE on a Thursday and Friday. Appropriate kit (trainers, black trousers/shorts with a white t-shirt and plain black jacket/jumper) must be worn on these days please.
Things to remember:
- All children should bring a named flask or bottle of water to school. This should be taken home and washed every day.
- Named pumps must be worn in school. Children should be able to tie laces quickly if they have lace-up pumps/outdoor shoes and pumps should be checked by a parent every half term to ensure they are in good condition to prevent trip hazards.
- Named, appropriate clothing for the weather should be brought every day – please ensure your child has a coat in school every day. Gloves and hats may also still be a good idea at this time of year.
- School Policy is that, other than for religious reasons, children should not wear jewellery in school apart from a watch (smart watches are not allowed). These need to be removed for PE lessons.

Fun in PE!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 4 Class Blog
During this first half term of Year 4, the children have been enjoying taking part in their two PE lessons per week of fitness and ball skills. In ball skills, we have been focussing on some key vocabulary including: tracking, collecting, accuracy, consistency, possession, dribbling, attacking and defending.
The Princess and the Pea
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 4 Class Blog
The children completed their first independent write of year 4 this week, where they wrote a diary entry of a Gladiator following a battle. Today, we have begun our next writing project, focussing on the book 'The Princess and the Pea' by Lauren Child. In our first 'plot point', the children used adjectives, a time adverbial, speech punctuation and an added dose of alliteration! Highlights of our added alliteration were, 'a powerful potion' and 'a special sunset'. Well done, Year 4!
Times Table Rock Stars Day!

What a fantastic day we had dressed up as rockstars today! The effort everyone has put in to their outfits and in to their times tables, was wonderful to see. We have also completed our Roman Army!
Ukulele Lessons
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 4 Class Blog
We are very lucky in Year 4 this term to be having weekly ukulele lessons with Mr. Fletcher. We had a great lesson today in which we practised four different chords and played along to Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’! Well done Year 4, you sounded great.
RE
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 4 Class Blog
In RE, the children have been learning about The Gospel. They have thought about what God meant when He said "Be fishers of people," and have discussed our key question of 'What kind of world did Jesus want?' Ask us to find out what we thought!
